Calypso History Month kicks off [Sept. 24] with a church service at the Trinity Cathedral, Port of Spain…and will continue with a series of events until November 9, when the Explainer and the Mighty Power will be featured in concert at the Mas Camp Pub, Woodbrook.
The Trinbago Unified Calypsonians Organisation (TUCO) has scheduled all events to suit the curfew hours of the continuing State of Emergency. During this year’s Calypso History Month special tribute will be paid to, among others, music producer Leston Paul and lyricist Winsford Devine in recognition to their respective contributions to the art form over the years.
Over one month of activities will see TUCO presenting a mix of shows, seminars, workshops and receptions throughout Trinidad and Tobago. These will include a seminar titled, “Saving the Calypso Series—Passing the Baton to the Youth: Young Women in Calypso” presented by the University of Trinidad and Tobago at the National Academy for the Performing Arts (NAPA) on October 1.
There will also be a business symposium titled, “The Business of Calypso”, jointly presented by TUCO and the Ministry of Trade and Industry on October 14 at a venue to be announced.
